NEWS: NAZARETH THE BIRTH TOWN OF JESUS CHRIST, CANCELS CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF DONALD TRUMP
Many tourists and Christians planning a Christmas trip to Nazareth this holiday season will be disappointed as the birth town of Jesus Christ will not be celebrating the birthday of Christ this year in his childhood hometown because of Donald Trump's recognization of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
President Trump's recognizstion of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has caused a backlash in the region, particularly among Muslims and the reaction has reverberated to Nazareth. Nazareth is the northern town in Israel which is home to a population made up of mostly Muslims and Christians, this year they are scrapping all the holidays plans including Christmas market and festivals.
Ali Salam who is the town mayor and a Muslim made this announcement on Thursday, that all plans for the Christmas event will be cancelled in the town this year.
He said; "our identity and faith cannot be bargained (Trump's) decision has taken away the joy of the holiday and we will cancel the festivities this year"
Nazareth is believed to be Jesus Christ's childhood home, though he was born in Bethlehem. As such, the annual Christmas event in Nazareth are a huge tourist attraction during the Christmas season.
Donald Trump's announcement last week reversed decades of U.S. policy and made America the only country to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The city is also claimed by the Palestinian population and Jerusalem is home to some sacred sites in Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Trump has ordered the U.S. embassy to be moved from Tel Viv.
