The government of Equatorial Guinea say they stopped an attempted coup in late December of last year which led to the arrest of at least 30 armed mercenaries in Cameroon, near the border of Equatorial Guinea. Mr Nicholas Obama Nchama who is the minister of security in the country said radical opposition parties had recruited mercenaries to overthrown the government of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, who has been ruling the country for nearly 40 now. Minister Nicholas said the coup had. been foiled with the help of the Cameroonian security services. The alleged mercenaries from Chad, Cameroon and the Central Africa Republic (CAR) were found with rocket launchers, rifles and large amounts of ammunition. Teodoro government has been labeled a regime of  corruption and human rights abuses. An infamous failed coup attempt was led 14 years ago by former British soldier Simon Mann. The former commando and businessman was arrested in Zimbabwe in 2004 and extradited four years later...

An unidentified 37 years old man committed suicide on the dawn of New Year by jumping into a river at Odo-ona-kekere, Oyo state. Photo of the river below:

 This policeman was beaten to stupor by some angry youths from iropora area of Ekiti state after the police officer allegedy shot an unarmed man in the community identified as Mr Ayo Oluwasusi. According to report by EkitiDefender, the police officer from Igede police station shot an unarmed man which led the angry attack on the police officer.

At least 50 people are reportedly killed in the fresh fight between the people of Benue state and Fulani herdsmen after they invaded parts of Guma and Logo local Government Areas of the state on New Year's Day. These attacks that lasted till the later part of Tuesday, happened on the dawn of the implementation of the anti-open grazing law which the Fulani herdsmen considered detrimental to their means of livelihood.
