Harmonia Rosales, a Chicago-based artist, is fast becoming social media modern day Michaelangelo with her controversial painting of recreating Michelangelo's "The Creation ofAdam". The original painting by Michelangelo can be seen in the Sistine Chapel located in in Vatican City, but Harmonia Rosales' version replaces Adam, God, and the other male characters with an entire cast of black women. She said she want her daughter to grow up to be proud of her proud skin, curls and coils.
The 33-year-old artist told Buzzfeed
that she wanted to take a "widely recognized painting" – one that shows white men as central figures of authority and flip the script. She also said that "the white figures has been dominating classic art for century now and are featured in major museums around the world" why should that continue she challenged?
