EVENT: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LITERATURE GIANT OF AFRICA, CHIMAMANDA NGOZIE ADICHIE
I am going to take the liberty to express my profound love and admiration for this beautiful, strong and talented woman who has put Nigeria and Africa as whole in the global topmost literature niche.
For those that are close to yours truly, knows of my crush for Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie since the very first first day i laid my hands on her first book, PURPLE HIBISCUS, it has been a love affair all the way. Even thou the relationship has been one sided and am sure she certainly knows nothing whatsoever about your truly but hey, my love and admiration has not dim for a second till this day of AMERICANAH AND DEAR IJEAWELE.
This love that has metamorphosed through Purple Hibiscus to Half Of A Yellow Sun to The Things Around Your Neck to Americanah to Dear Ijeawele has brought me to this point in my life where literature is not just a distance and mysterious figure in foreign lands and characters anymore. It is now something that i can exist in and other people like me and this is because of all the Africa's Writers that has existed and pave the way before Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie came into the fold. Shout out to Chinua Achebe, Camara Laye, Wole Soyinka, Leopord Sedar Senghor, Amos Tutuola, Dinaw Mengestu, Mariam Ba, Nuruddih Farah and so many more that has made us so proud all through the years.
But today we are celebrating our very own Nigerian Enigmatic writer with a swag, a lady who has raised the bar higher for her contemporaries, a lady who has fought and won a long lost battle, feminism, that every woman deserve equal standards in a world full of male testosterone.
"We do not usually associate wisdom with beginners, but here is a new writer endowed with the gift of ancient storytellers. Adichie knows what is at stake, and what to do about it. She is fearless or she would not have taken on the intimidating horror of Nigeria’s civil war. Adichie came almost fully made."
This is how the legendary Novelist, Chinua Achebe celebrated her when he was sent the manuscript for her second novel, Half of A Yellow Sun.
So here we are today, we at #haderotakisblog celebrating Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie as she celebrate another year. Happy birthday Madam, we wish you many more years in health, love, happiness and achievement in the blissful years ahead. More photos after the cut.
