President Muhammadu Buhari as on today, 4 January 2028 launches the two new standard gauge  locomotives and ten new standard gauge executive passenger coaches for the Kaduna-abuja train services. Certainly this is new development for the country and this will definitely ease transportation in that region of the country.

Just as some people are starting the new year on a very good note, some are not having so much luck with the new year. A fatal accident has left 3 persons burnt beyond recognition at the Garrison junction, Aba road, Port Harcourt in the early hour of today, 4th January 2018. The accident happened after the car hit the controversial Garrison roundabout. According to report, a Toyota Avalon carrying about 3 persons ran into passengers waiting for taxi at the roundabout. The government of Equatorial Guinea say they stopped an attempted coup in late December of last year which led to the arrest of at least 30 armed mercenaries in Cameroon, near the border of Equatorial Guinea. Mr Nicholas Obama Nchama who is the minister of security in the country said radical opposition parties had recruited mercenaries to overthrown the government of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, who has been ruling the country for nearly 40 now. Minister Nicholas said the coup had. been foiled with the help of the Cameroonian security services. The alleged mercenaries from Chad, Cameroon and the Central Africa Republic (CAR) were found with rocket launchers, rifles and large amounts of ammunition. Teodoro government has been labeled a regime of  corruption and human rights abuses. An infamous failed coup attempt was led 14 years ago by former British soldier Simon Mann. The former commando and businessman was arrested in Zimbabwe in 2004 and extradited four years later...

An unidentified 37 years old man committed suicide on the dawn of New Year by jumping into a river at Odo-ona-kekere, Oyo state. Photo of the river below:

 This policeman was beaten to stupor by some angry youths from iropora area of Ekiti state after the police officer allegedy shot an unarmed man in the community identified as Mr Ayo Oluwasusi. According to report by EkitiDefender, the police officer from Igede police station shot an unarmed man which led the angry attack on the police officer.

At least 50 people are reportedly killed in the fresh fight between the people of Benue state and Fulani herdsmen after they invaded parts of Guma and Logo local Government Areas of the state on New Year's Day. These attacks that lasted till the later part of Tuesday, happened on the dawn of the implementation of the anti-open grazing law which the Fulani herdsmen considered detrimental to their means of livelihood. The end of the year was a scary one for Kim Kardashian and members of her family as her little boy, Saint West was rushed to the hospital for pneumonia. He was admitted and spent three days in the hospital before his mother, Kim was able to bring him back home in good health. Kim took to her Twitter handle to appreciate and thanks members of staff in the hospital who worked around the clock to ensure Saint West got a good clean bill of health. Read what she wrote below. The year is surely starting on a very good note as one good Samaritan police woman from Umuahia, Abia state rescued a three month old baby from  child traffickers. A Facebook user with the name Iromuanya Classy Nma shared the story on Facebook said her sister in-law who is a police officer in Umuahia rescued the baby from  child traffickers. She brought the baby home to bath and change her clothes. So they are pleading to the general public to help look for the parents or mother of the child. She said whoever has any valuable information on who the mother is should report to Amankwo police station.
